Garden 6 - Falkland Islanders Resistance

"They are few in number, but have the right to live in peace,
to determine their own way of life and to choose their own allegiance."
Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher ~ 3rd. April 1982

This is a living memorial to the first British Resistance Force since World War Two. Surrounding the willow Upland Goose is a small orchard of 5 Cider apple and 3 Perry apple trees. The trees are set on the Ordinal and Cardinal points of the compass. The three white plaque stands commemorate the female civilian casualties of the war on the Islands. The Falkland Islands Resistance spied on, provided vital intelligence, sabotaged and generally disrupted the life of the enemy who invaded on the 2nd April 1982. When the British Task Force landed, many islanders helped transport troops, supplies and ammunition across the islands as the battles raged. Some acted as guides for the troops and went on to fight with them in decisive battles. They should be rightly proud of their achievements and hope that it will inspire future generations of Islanders.
