Introduction

VERA ATKINS MEMORIAL SEAT Squadron Leader Vera Atkins

Vera Atkins was the Intelligence Officer of "F" Section Special Operations Executive.

This memorial was unveiled by Baroness Crawley, Baroness Verma, Colonel Nicholas Chambaz and Zenna Atkins on the 24th September 2011.

The Pine Tree was grown by Annette Colton from a seed found in a cone which was picked up inside the electric fencing of Natzweiler concentration camp in the Vosges Mountains of Eastern France. (Sadly Annette died on the 30th August 2011 age 49. A plaque commemorating her is set into the seat.)

The wooden seat is set on a metal frame and was crafted by Mike Colton from Ash and Pine just using a saw, hammer and chisel.

The fifteen individual plaques on the seat commemorate the women of "F" Section - Special Operations Executive who lost their lives during the Second World War 1939-45 in Europe.
